Arabic Translations of ISO 9K:2K Documents Approved ACAPULCO, MEXICO — The international technical committee charged with drafting the ISO 9000 family of standards has recommended publication of the first official Arabic translations of ISO 9001, ISO 9000 and ISO 9004 as part of an ongoing initiative to minimize translation differences around the world. “We know that the translations will increase awareness of the users of the standard,” says Osama El Meligy, convener of the Arab Translation Task Group, which is comprised of experts from seven Arabic-speaking countries. “If your mother tongue is not English and you are learning about quality management for the first time in English, almost half of the meanings, you cannot conceive in English,” says El Meligy of Egypt. In approving a resolution with respect to the Arabic translations here on October 26, International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Technical Committee (TC) 176 also voted to support work on Arabic translations of ISO 19011 and future or revised ISO standards, 10006, 10017, 10018 and 21095 (a technical report).
